Root Cause Analysis

The vulnerability stems from insecure file permissions (644) on keyring files. The patch introduces umask(077) and explicit 0600 file modes in these functions:

In gatherkeys.py, the addition of umask wrapping around keyring operations indicates the original code lacked permission restrictions when fetching/writing keyring files.
In new.py, the switch from 'w' to 'w' with 0600 mode and umask control shows the original file creation was insecure. Both functions directly handle sensitive keyring file creation/modification, and their pre-patch implementations match the vulnerability description of world-readable permissions.
